When to use who vs. which?

Can you guide me to a resource which explains the case for using who vs. which?

When sentence is correct? "teams which are pitching" or "teams who are pitching"
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Actually, I would use neither and use "that" instead. Since you want an online source, I checked a few out.

According to Grammarbook.com, "that" would be correct because you are introducing an essential clause (one that is necessary for understanding and not separated by commas) meaning you use "that" and "which."

Of course, if you use "that" earlier in the sentence, you can use which. But either way, because you are referring to a team, you do not use "who."

Actually, now that I think about it, you can avoid the problem all together by saying "pitching teams" instead of "teams that are pitching."

It is a common translation problem.

Hi jhaski,

Which is used for aniamls and objects (e.g. The door which opened suddenly, made a creaking sound.)

Who is used for people (e.g. Mary who was hungry, went to the restaurant.)
