When someone un-registers a website started in 6/08 and gives it to someone else, does the site itself lose it's ranking?

I'm wondering if a site loses it's ranking on a "time basis" if it is transferred to another person.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

the sites retain their ranking at first because the search engines aren't monitoring when a domain is dropped...

however, when the spiders come back around and see the content has changed the ranking will as well.

it can change slowly, however, as the site will still be benefiting from any incoming links it had, until those site owners see the change and decide whether it is still worth linking to or not.

in the case of a dead domain, definitely not. but sometimes a site actually improves with a new owner.

this whole topic is the reason that domain brokers out there try to snatch up as many abandoned domains as possible. they can get traffic out of defunct domains for quite a while in some cases and they turn that into a profit.

No, but the ranking will change based on how many hits the links recieve, and how many times people type the name in the search engine or keyword to land on the page. I am in the middle of changing my site, and I am surprised at how fast the search engines caught into bringing up the right page. - DNatureofDTrain
