Apple INC has historically followed a rather rigid product schedule, updating each line of products each year around the same time. The iPod was first introduced in October of 2001 and each iteration of the product has followed that time frame. Based on that, the most logical time to expect a new line of iPods would be in the fall of the year. Although the plans for any new product launch may be interrupted by the recent medical leave of longtime CEO Steve Jobs. For example, the iPad was introduced around this time last year and despite widespread speculation that the iPad 2 would be announced, the company remains mum on the device. Due to this, while the odds are there will be a new iPod line next fall, it would be unwise to bet on it happening for sure.
