When is the best time to go to Costa Rica and why?

Looking to go soon.
Tip for best answer: M$1.05
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

When is the best time to visit Costa Rica?
Well alot depends on your personal desires of what you seek to gain from your experience while there.
If your looking for a dryer season then December through April would be your best bet, as this is concidered the dry season. A drawback with this time frame is it's also the High season in terms of tourism for Costa Rica.
If you enjoy larger crowds on the beaches and mingling amonst conciderable numbers of international travelers then you would prefer the High season.

Now if your preference is less crowded beaches and a rainy season then that period of time from May through November, which is concidered the "Green Season" would be more to your liking.

Both seasons have their pros and cons and its best to do some personal research to best match the average conditions of the climate and tourist seasons to suit your paticular taste.

I've included some great sites that will give you a wealth of information to glean through.

Regardless of the season I will say that from a personal point of view I don't think there is really a bad season to experience Costa Rica.
Its a beautiful country, rich in both history and natural wonders as well as very friendly and accommedating people no matter what time of the year you decide to visit.
I am sure you shall enjoy your trip whenever you go.
The page right here on Mahalo is a great place to start you research,

The best time to travel to Costa Rica is any time except the Holy Week or Christmas week. These are considered major holidays in Ticos, so everything is crowded and transportation is hectic and many shops as well as restaurants are closed.
If you don't mind the rain you can visit Costar Rica from May through November. October and November has the highest rainfall while May and June are sometimes pleasant and the air fare and beach resorts are cheaper. Veranito on June is considered "little summer" where there are several weeks with little or no rain.

Hello eculver:

Personally, I find the best time to travel down there is from middle Oct to mid Nov. The raining season is at its end, which mean the weather there is good, and it is at a time before the tourist and holiday season begins, so prices are lower, meaning hotels/transportation/recreation are as much as 50% cheaper. This is a huge contributing factor considering how cheap the airflight ticket can be at that time.

I have also heard that You're right, December to April in general is a pretty good time to visit there as well, not so much because the flight tickets are that much cheaper, but more so because of the simple fact that there won't be rain there all the time.
