when is issac newton's OFFCIALL birthday? I've have searched the web and cant seem to find it. The websites all have different information.

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Prof. Hatch of the University of Florida states: "Isaac Newton was born prematurely on Christmas day 1642 (4 January 1643, New Style)" (http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/rhatch/pages/01-Courses/current-courses/08sr-newton.htm) which hints at the cause for confusion, where some sources state Newton was born on Dec. 25, 1642.

The issue is that Dec. 25, 1642 is the "old style" (or OS) date of Newton's birth, which was in use in England at the time. There is a 10 day correction needed to go from dates in OS to "new style" (or NS) between 1500 and 1700 AD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Style_and_New_Style_dates). Hence, Dec. 25, 1642 OS is Jan. 4, 1643 NS.

I voted this as "Best Answer." However, this answer can be improved by not putting URLs within parentheses, which confuse the URL code. Please compare those links within vs those without. Also, clarifying which styles followed the Julian and Gregorian calendars, respectively, would have provided the extra detail needed to make this answer exceptional. Since the second answer did address this issue, the choice for "Best Answer" was tough. Nevertheless, this answer did include an essential detail about the December birthday, which tipped my vote. Well done!

Sir Isaac Newton by the Gregorian Calendar( the one most people now follow) was born, January 4th 1643, by the Julian Calender his birthday would have been December 25th 1642.
