When installing Windows 7 RC1, do we get an option to keep all our documents? or all our documents be completely wiped out?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Even though it is designed to upgrade near flawless from Vista (not as easy with other versions of Windows), I would still back everything up! You never know what could happen when dealing with a RC.

And if you have XP and would like to read about the experience upgrading from it, check out the below articles:

Yes, it creates a windows.old directory and stores everything under your main Profile directory, like your docs, pics, etc. but it doesn't keep anything else. you can choose to do the fresh install and not format, or format as well. I backed everything up though just in case. Once its installed, simply move the files to the new folders in your my docs structure.

You can only do an upgrade (keep docs and programs) if you have Vista. If you have XP you need to do a clean install, which means a format...

If your running Windows Vista there is an upgrade path that will allow you to keep your documents. If your running anything other then Vista then there is no upgrade path meaning clean install and it will wipe out all of your data. If this is the case...then it is recommended that you backup all your documents and perform a clean install of Windows 7. Then restore your documents onto your freshly installed Windows 7.

Here is the upgrade paths from Windows Vista:
Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional
Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate

Hope this helps!
