when i upgrade to leopard a while back, there's a folder in my root called BaseSystem.pkg - safe to delete?

it's followed by a string of random characters so it's BaseSystem.pkg.146UbZfyL

is it safe to delete?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can guarantee to you that that file does not exist on my hard drive (Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5), and my computer still works great. Mostly likely it was deposited there through an errant third party application installer or accidental drag-and-drop from the desktop.

.pkg files are usually installers or receipts. While it should be safe to delete either, receipts can be helpful in the future, in that they can contain information on the installed files that you can use to manually undo certain software installations.

I don't know that this is so safe to delete. See link.

these are probably what is left from the installation process and archived. This should be safe to delete and won't even affect the overall system.

hmmm...even though it's filled with files like "AddressBook.plan" and "AddressBook.delete" - most are marked something.delete - others are something.enabled...and so on...
