When I answer a question and want to add a photo, how do I do that?

I tried to add a photo before from a site. It didn't work.
Tip for best answer: M$0.37
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

To add a photo in your answer you just need to paste the URL of the picture in the answer field. For example, I just found a photo of tulips from http://pictopia.com/pub2/photolab.html . I just have to paste the URL of the photo in a new line and the photo will automatically be displayed, like this:
http://pictopia.com/pub2/images/photo-tulips.png

The URL of an image on the web can be obtained by right-clicking on the image and clicking Properties.

Alternatively, click "add photo" at the bottom of the answer/comment field to attach a photo to your answer. You'll also need the URL of the photo.

For your photo to display correctly, it has to be in standard image formats like JPG, GIF or PNG. Also, it's possible for some website owners to disable their images from showing on other websites like Mahalo.

You can also add a photo, video or audio track by clicking the buttons above the "What's your source" section of the answer box and then pasting the photos URL in the prompted box provided.

Unlike other sites, Mahalo does not allow you to upload your own photos. You will not see an upload button. This is because Mahalo does not store photos or videos on its servers. I initially found this very confusing because I could not find an upload button. Then, I figured out that you could upload the photo first to Flickr, and then post from Flickr to here. Even that was confusing, since I never used Flickr before. Initially, I actually would look through the source file for the Flickr page to find the image with the .jpg suffix, and copy and paste this into my response (my early responses having photos at Mahalo are like this). And as you can imagine, this was quite labor intensive! Then I finally asked the question here, and found you could just paste in the Flickr url itself, and Mahalo will know it is the photo you are referring to.

I wanted to SEE if @papyrus was right. I have often wondered how people put pictures in their answer. Thanks.

In hindsight, I see I should have asked!

Papyrus is correct, that's one way to add photos. But that only works with Flickr, Pictopia, and Photobucket. If you want to post a picture from Google you have to post the URL within the question. You can add a photo directly from most sites, you will have to submit them to Flickr or a similar photo site.

thats not true.. I've posted photos from all over the place just by putting in the URL in the answer itself.. It just has to have the file extension on the end, like .jpg or .gif
