When going to a fair, what are your "must have" foods?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hotdogs and lemonade! Also waffles with powdered sugar and chocolate topping if I can find them. They are not typical fair food in here, but I've always imagined going to the fair in America (from watching all the TV and movies) and imagine of what I will buy if I ever went to a fair in America. Ice cream is too boring, I can eat ice cream all the time if I want. However, good hotdogs and waffles are rare here, so I really want to try them if I ever go to American fair.

OK, I've sort of answered this question before...but I'll tell you that I very rarely get to go to fairs ( Australians call them shows ) and so when I do I have a bit of a ritual.

I get the showbags with ride coupons and go on all the rides first thing! I love them!

Then I go and see a few exhibits while my tummy settles down....we have a very famous woodchopping contest that I love to watch - scary but exciting!

And then I hit as many stalls as I can! I eat the hot chips and dagwood dogs and meat pies and fairy floss and icecream with strawberries and whatever new concoction has been made - if you go to the Royal Easter Show in Sydney you have to get the strawberries from the stalls!

We have nothing like the US with double-fried-chessy-battered-things-on-sticks-dipped-in-chocolate-and-sprinkled-with-bacon-chips type food but I would eat it if I found it. I like the idea of a battered Mars Bar but wow....so powerful!

My must have, can't leave without eating one?
Dagwood Dog

A picture of this delicious and 'required' fair food is below....

and yeah, I do love the strawberries :)

Oh ritzblok took my answer. I have to say that the funnel cake for me is the must have food. I can avoid all the other grease laden stuffs but the funnel cake is an all time favorite. Come on now - fried dough and sugar - what could be better and practically every culture has some version of this dish (I think).

My all time favorite has to be funnel cake. That doughy series of cake swirls with powdered sugar. Every time I go to any type of fair, I always save room for the funnel cake.
