When do you think the Iraq war will be over?

1. When will (do you think) the war in Iraq be over?
- August 31st, 2010 was the last day of the combat mission in Iraq.

2. When are our troops going to come home?
- We will know the answer to this when the last American soldier leaves Iraq and not until.
Here is a story from Februrary 2009 printed in the Wall Street Journal that claimed the majority of troops would be home by yesterday as in the "last day of summer" in 2010. However in the same article the WSJ has reported that "the (Obama) administration is prepared to leave a residual force of more than 30,000 troops in Iraq until at least 2011"
- and from Reuters and Iraqi Prime Minister Prime Nuri al-Maliki "There is an agreement actually reached, reached between the two parties on a fixed date which is the end of 2011 to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil,"
- and from Vice President Joe Biden in globalpost “We kept our promise – a promise made to the American people and the people of Iraq by drawing down our forces under 50,000, and we’re on track to remove all of our troops next year,”
In my experience.. deadlines in politics, government, and war are rarely met and it is my opinion that we will still have troops on the ground in Iraq on January 1st, 2012. I have been praying to be wrong here and I hope all of our soldiers are home by or before the deadline.

M$Question 2: We have guys stationed all over the world in relatively stable and equally unstable bases and outposts. I suspect we will always have troops in Iraq. It's probably 5-10 years before we extract ourselves from daily skirmishes (think Vietnam), but I think only 2 more years (an election gambit) before the majority of the rest of the troops are called home by a President trying to get re-elected.
Personal observations and opinions. Nothing authoritative.
