When did you start feeding your infant baby cereal?

Many people begin feeding their infants baby cereal very early due to reasons such as fussiness and the inability to sleep long without getting hungry. Do you think this is a wise decision? Is an infant's stomach strong enough to handle the cereal before 3 or 4 months old? When do doctors recommended beginning feeding the cereal that is formulated for babies? When did you, and how did it turn out for your child?

I started feeding my son infant cereal at about four months. I could tell that the feedings of formula weren't satisfying his appetite. I'd put a small amount of cereal in the formula because at that age they really can't manipulate solids with their mouths yet.

I know that many doctors advise against starting babies on solid foods too early, but my son never had a weight problem (still skinny as a rail like his mom) or developed any food allergies.

Moms know their children best, and what they need. Some doctors recommend nothing but formula or breast milk for the first year, but my doctor was OK with the cereal in the formula to satisfy my son's appetite.

I started feeding my daughter baby cereal when she was about four months of age. The doctor suggested we actually cook some rice, and mush it up and give her that. We tried it and it didn't go very well. So the next day we went to the store and bought some baby cereal. We mixed it up with a little bit of her milk, then fed it to her with a little spoon. She loved it, and couldn't get enough! This also helped her with her sleeping as well. Once she started eating a little bit of the baby cereal she pretty much slept through the night, with the occasional wanting a bottle in the middle of the night. This didn't happen near as much as before. So I would say that about four to five months would be the best time to start introducing this to your child, of course speak with your child's doctor to make sure this is the best decision for you and your family!

My baby was exclusively breastfed, but I started feeding her baby cereals at about eight months old. This is because; she refused to take anything that doesn’t taste like breast milk. I even tried mixing the cereals with breast milk but she refused. But when she started teething, I tried again and to my greatest surprise she ate a little, then the next day, a little more, and that was it.

My doctor told me to start feeding her cereals as soon as she gets to her sixth month, but after I complained that she wasn’t taking them, he advised me to give her some time and never give up. I also tried baby biscuits, which has an ample amount of cereals in them.

My friend’s baby was different though, her mum couldn’t feed her due to some complications she had, so the lady taking care of her started her on cereals when she was 3months old. I think it is different for different babies. But most doctors’ advice is to start at the fouth month.
