When and why did Mahalo change the minimum payout to 150 Mahalo Dollars?
I feel cheated.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$I'm not like the people who say, "Oh, this doesn't bother me at all, I can make that much in a month." Cause I can't. Seriously, I will never make my payout. And you know what, if I come close to it, I bet you anything it'll be raised to M$250.
This was fun when the goal seemed approachable. Right now, it stopped being fun. Mostly cause the pay for a lot of the questions are in the nickel and dime range. And I like to answer those questions, cause I like helping. But I was really looking forward to that $40 dollar payout. I was going to get a Cinematic Titanic DVD with that money. Sigh.

M$Hope this helps.

M$Didn't the payout ratio used to be $0.80 per Mahalo dollar? It is now $0.75 per Mahalo dollar.

M$Yes, I wouldn't worry about it. Mahalo pays a lot more than any other site AND if you are engaged in Mahalo on a daily basis you'll hit the M$150 requirement without a problem. Most of the folks cashing out are cashing out for well above the M$150 mark.
The folks who were gaming the system were almost all doing it with small tricks that cashing out at M$40 made plausible. for example, imagine having 10 accounts asking and answering questions and voting for each other.... .25 at a time, or 160 questions to cash out that scam account (which we would catch). Now that person have to do 4x150 questions with a scam account to cash out for M$150.... makes it way to hard to scam the system.
I'm not sure the system was ever 80-20% to be honest, but originally only a small number of questions had money on them and then Mahalo defaulted to have .25 on each. So, we've invested more money in the system.
@jasonclacanis I hadn't heard that point of view before. So if you increase the amount of scamming that would have to be done then you increase the chance of you catching them?
If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're going to succeed and make far more than the minimum threshold. I saw that Mahalo Answers is considering creating a new revenue share system that would reward the person asking the question with cash as well as the person who receives the best answer. So, more money is about to be spread around Mahalo despite the increase in the minimum payout threshold.
Thanks for such a great answer @jasoncalacanis. As you may know, I've supported the M$150 minimum all along as I really don't see how a dedicated user wouldn't reach it. However, it's great to have an actual example of what it took to scam the system before and why it's much harder to do now. Should anyone else complain, I will be directing them to your post.
Thank you, I was not aware that this announcement was made.
