But, since today is Jan 1st, I won't be procrastinating considering I just came up with them now.
1. Don't be such a pack-rat.
I got a case of serious packrat-ism from my mother, who seems to think it's necessary to keep every piece of clothing, every to-do list, and every resealable margarine container that goes through the house "just in case". Mine has never been that bad, but I do look around my house sometimes at things I haven't used EVER and wonder why I don't throw them out - the only reason is "i *might* need them. I think all the things I haven't touched since I moved out 3 years ago can likely be disposed of.
2. Donate more
Which goes hand in hand with #1. Donating as much of that junk as possible might give me a reason to get it out of my house. I like to donate and volunteer, but I just don't have the cash to make monetary donations, and I've had a difficult time finding volunteer opportunities that aren't through a church, or require a set schedule/long hours - I just can't make that kind of commitment.
3. Don't procrastinate so much - but don't overwork myself either
Another lovely habit I've inherited from my family is procrastination. Particularly important facing the start of my 3rd year of college and a ton of homework. I tried this last semester - I did quite good for the first few weeks (if i do say so myself), but I worked way too hard and stressed over everything, pulled one too many all nighters, and hit a roadblock where I could hardly focus on anything for more than 5 minutes; unfortunately, right at midterm time. I forced myself to work after that, but I was constantly on the verge of yelling at someone or bursting out in tears. Don't want to do THAT again!
That is all.
I think I've picked things that are particularly important to me - decluttering to save time and space and make my apartment's storage go further, donating (which has always been important to me, just difficult to do sometimes), and procrastination. I'm half done school and I'd really hate to flunk out now!

M$1. Lose weight. I used to be on Seroquel and it caused me to gain weight. Plus with the Holidays and eating pie and turkey and all that yummy stuff, I gained a little more weight. So I intend to do everything I can to lose this little bit of extra weight.
2. Write more fiction and get published in an anthology. I am a member of a writers forum and they hold short story contests every month. So I intend to do everything I can to win one of the contests and to be published in the anthology.
3. Get an article published in a print magazine. I have always wanted to be published in the magazine Sasee so I am going to keep trying until they accept one of my submissions.
4. Make the How to team on Mahalo. I tried once and I am going to try again until I get in.
5. Make more money with Demand Studios. Demand Studios is an online content site that pays people to write for them. I have been with them for a year and a half and I already make decent money through them but I want to increase my income this year.
Well I think that is it. Happy New Year and here is to keeping our new years resolutions! :)

M$Whenever I see people doing this, which happens a lot on other answers sites, I assume it's so they can get their own answers to the top... Eugh, maybe we should start actually REQUIRING people add a note when it's voted down.
@truth7,@ packie
Guys Vic is right you seem to be going overboard with the voting, it is an open question
Please be mindful of the way you vote, please use proper etiquette when deciding on how to vote.
Guys, please review the proper use of the "unhelpful" vote. I know you're new, but this is bad procedure. Was my answer truly unhelpful? This question required a personal answer from all of us, not something informative. Would appreciate it it you reviewed the rules of etiquette, or you'll become unpopular really quickly. No sour grapes, just please be judicious.

Oh, you mean like goals? Never mind.
Probably lose a bit of weight, and to build a new HTPC. Possibly develop an iPhone application. Oh, and to finish the Pepakura stuff. :D

M$Jests aside, I do have some resolutions involving Mahalo, along with some that are more general. In keeping with the advice that I received in a question that I recently asked, I will be making big resolutions but I will also be breaking those down into smaller milestones so that I can celebrate the small victories along the way.
My big picture resolutions are:
1. Getting in better shape.
2. Getting in better financial shape.
3. Getting my apartment in better shape.
4. Dedicating time to helping others. Right now I mainly use money as a proxy for giving time to others and I'd like to achieve more of a balance.
5. Implementing a system for Getting Things Done to keep the previous goals (and everything else) on track.
I see Mahalo as a small part of #2, a larger part of #4 (using my skills to help others find answers for instance), and a beneficiary of #5.
Happy New Year. I hope that everybody takes steps toward achieving their dreams in the coming year.

M$Its not just you Victioria. It was definitely my understanding that voting someone unhelpful should be done sparingly, and that you should tell somebody why you are voting them unhelpful if it isn't immediately obvious, so that they can improve the quality of their answers.

Instead, I am resolving each day. Every day I will get up, and try to hate my job a little less, and try to smile a little more.
Each day, I will hug my son, even when he gets red in the face, and pushes me to the brink of my patience, I will hug him just a little harder those days.
I will try to be nicer to people, it's not their fault they are just ignorant and hate their lives.
I'm just going to try everyday to someone I can be proud of.

The best way I realized to do this was through microfinancing small business entrepreneurs in developing nations.
I chose MicroPlace because they have several different organizations, causes, countries and interest rates to choose from.
This is not a charitable handout. This is an investment opportunity for myself and people across the globe.
Of course, I could buy a CD or get some mutual funds but money just ends up helping out banks and large investment companies.
Why not get a return rate on the human condition?
My $100 investment will make a much larger difference for a farmer in Vietnam or mother in India with her textile business.

M$Doesn't feel so good to get an unhelpful vote, does it @packie? Especially when it was from the heart and a very tender place.
It isn't that I don't understand where you guys are coming from. I am new to Mahalo and there is a lot of info to read and a lot to learn. Every site has its own values and etiquette. I obviously now know to use my voting power for good instead of evil (though I had my reasons, I will definitely voice them clearly from now on so as not to create confusion) My only point is that instead of politely sending me a message or leaving a comment like yours, @buddawiggi, victoria had to get nasty. As more experienced members of the community, I would think you guys would try to help new members and make them feel comfortable, trying to be nice even when they've made a faux pas. That is the true meaning of etiquette. It is not bashing people over the head with critcism.
You sent that message in addition to your harassing comments. If you really can't let this drop then I don't know what to tell you. Enjoy your victory. Now my eyes have been opened to the kind of people that are "running" this site.
@packie we're trying to help you out, not hurt you. Your unhelpful voting spree is hurting the people who honestly answered the questions when it later comes down to voting. Yes, there's much info to digest but we all help one another here. I posted a topic a few days ago (the Green Belts and below one), so if you have something to say, feel free to post it there.
@packie ... nobody is being a "hall monitor" we have standards here at Mahalo Answers and will not be dragged into a swamp of trolling and malicious unhelpful votes.
Please have a look at Mahalo Answers Etiquette to see what we expect when using the unhelpful button.
~~When using it you must every time include a description of exactly why you feel the answer is unhelpful.. every time. If you have reasons to find something unhelpful please describe in detail as to what it is .. we all want to learn here and if you have something to teach us then do it with your words and not a malicious check of the unhelpful button.
Respectfully.
@buddawiggi
Hi there, Black Belt here. @packie, we're trying to help you. We're not trying to hurt you. Your actions are hurting other member's legitimate answers. Maybe this type of game you are playing is allowed elsewhere, but it is frowned upon here. All of us here regardless of belt level has paid our dues one way or another in learning the rules. Please don't get defensive when we're trying to help you.
Wow. You've really taught me a lesson about life. I haven't been able to stop crying. I'm going to go to church in a little while and thank the good Lord that there is someone out there to teach me such a valuable lesson.

My DM to Packie: RE Unhelpful
I trust by now you are "getting" that your use of the unhelpful function is really starting to get under our skin. Shall I assume that you now understand that this is a bad practice? Please respond that you will stop using "unhelpful" erroneously. Thanks.
My response from @packie
Our skin? I only see you complaining. There is a little thing in this country called free speech. I have been voted unhelpful before and I don't take it personally. People have their own reasons and their own logic for thinking my answers are not helpful. Let's end this here and not make this some sort of personal thing. Move along and worry about yourself.
-------------------
I sent a DM in an effort to be discreet. So much for that. Would this have been your response if the message had come from management?

I have a related question posted http://www.mahalo.com/answers/social-issues/did-you-accomplish-your-past-new-years-resolutions-or-you-have-the-same-one-every-year but it seems that it got buried under the numerous questions after an hour only. 2. Get out of debt this year! My husband and I made a huge dent in our debt this past year and I want to completely finish paying that off this year so that we can finally breathe. It's terrible to be in debt and to feel like there is no breathing room

4. Regulate my sleep so that I am on a more normal sleep schedule. Currently my schedule is opposite from the norm - going to sleep about 4am and getting up 11am-noon. One more!
4. Try more new foods
I normally am open to try new things, but sometimes I'll get mussels or something (usually at buffets), totally prepared - and then I just stare at them on my plate. I need to man up and actually TRY them!
First start - the Chinese BBQ I frequent. It's sort of like fast food, so most stuff is pre-made and they make use off ALL parts of the animals there. You can order things like ear, intestine, tongue, or stomach. The owner knows me now, enough to see me always making a face at something gross in the display. Sometimes they'll offer me things like pork stomach as they're closing but I always refuse.
I really should just pay that extra whole dollar and try some new things, even if they sound disgusting. I mean, SOMEONE has to like that stuff, right?
I'd also like to try more things like Sushi (raw) and different culture's food that I'd normally not try. I'm excited!
Holy cow.. thanks voters! Out of 36 answers I did NOT think I'd be getting this one!
Sushi is amazing!!
