What's your favorite version of "Way Down in the Hole"?

Popularized by the opening theme of The Wire, they used a different version in every season. My favorite is the original, the Tom Waits version, from Season 2. Here's a live rendition of that song with Waits and the Kronos Quartet.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This version, from The Blind Boys of Alabama, is pretty cool as well. I think it was used in The Wire in the first season.

Waits' version is also my favorite, though I've never heard a live version I like as much as the original studio recording on Frank's Wild Years:

(Unfortunately I can't find a legal online version to link to.)
