What's your favorite thing about this time of the year?

I love seeing the Snow Geese heading north to their nesting grounds.
There must of been at least 200,000 set down in my cornfields this evening.
This video isn't my fields but it looked and sounded about the same.

Change and Anticipation.

Here in New Hampshire we are on the cusp of a new season and everything is changing. I call this time of year the season between seasons and it is my favorite time of the year.

I am soooooo done with Winter and soooooo ready for Spring and Mother Nature is tempting me every day with just a small but always increasing taste of the new season but She never lets me forget that I live in NH and everything can and likely will change in any second.

Fortunately for me this "Season Between Seasons" happens 4 times a year so in a figurative sense this increases the season count here from a typical 4 usual seasons to 8 spectacular ones and those "Between Seasons" are all my favorite times of year.

"Spring in New Hampshire"
Claude McKay (1890–1948)

Too green the springing April grass,
Too blue the silver speckled sky,
For me to linger here, alas,
While happy winds go laughing by,
Wasting the golden hours indoors,
Washing windows and scrubbing floors.

Too wonderful the April night,
Too faintly sweet the first May flowers,
The stars too gloriously bright,
For me to spend the evening hours,
When fields are fresh and streams are leaping,
Wearied, exhausted, dully sleeping.

Spring has already started to pop here in the South! Last week, I opened my front door and was surprised by an overnight blooming of a huge pear tree directly across the street from me. The white blossoms look like fine lace made from cotton candy. My front living room window which runs from ceiling to floor perfectly frames this tree and has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This tree is always the first to bloom.

In a few weeks it will be time to visit the Bellingrath Gardens and see all the Azalea in bloom. This yearly pilgrimage always gives me hope for another beautiful year to come. If you look closely, you can catch a glimpse of me at (3:00), Happy Spring everyone!

WARMTH!

This time of year is just before summer, so living in the desert it means it's not hot as Hell yet. So during the day we get 70F weather. Nice enough to go out in a short sleeve but not too hot that you sweat bullets.

We are right in the "warmth" of spring. Nothing like a little sun on your face and not feel like you're melting. This time of year, in a word - warmth.

After that the only word we'll know is HOT!

This is probably one of my most favorite times of the year. First of all its starting to warm up, although I really have a major problem with the heat of the summer, the temperature right now is always nice. The other thing I like are that the days are starting to become longer. This is one of the things I really don't like about the winter, are the shorter days, its nicer when you have more hours to your day.

Where I live the almond trees are starting to flower in February until approximately beginning or March and then, almost immediately the little baby almond are forming.

This is the time when we get our first spring greens and we add some almond blossoms and then the baby almonds to our salads. It tastes so fresh, so new.

And with the last gentle spring rains, we know that we can start planting even the most delicate flowers and vegetables now, the time of night frosts are definitely over.

Soon, the sun will break through the clouds and I will feel it warm my face. I will then sit out on my deck, have a bottle of beer and eat a cornbeef and swiss sandwich. What could possibly be better? It is the simple things that happen occasionaly that make life great.
