Basically, it's an alternative universe show (which I usually don't like), but it's full of political intrigue, family relationships, ruthless yet sympathetic people, people who are making really difficult decisions, and interesting layers of symbolism. And the plot is based on the Biblical story of David (with a healthy heaping of Shakespeare on the side).

M$I also really liked Life on Mars until it was cancelled. The series finale was awesome though.

Wife and self were pretty worried about it for the first 3 episodes or so, but it's getting quite interesting. As typical for Whedon, there are little geeky throwaway bits throughout.
OTOH, no major characters have died yet, but you know that's coming. It's a Whedon show.

I was really disappointed by the first few episodes, but as usual with Whedon I am really getting into it now. If you get through the opening you begin to love it.
