What's your favorite level editing program?

Specifically for PC games, what's your favorite program to use to do level editing? Why is it your favorite? How easy is it to use? List your preference along with this scoring system:

Learning Curve: ?/5
(How difficult is it to learn to use?)
Depth: ?/5
(Does it let you add story elements, custom sounds, etc.?)
Compatibility: ?/5
(Does it work with all unpatched versions of the game, or just patched ones?)
References: ?/5
(Is there an online source for tutorials?)

Best answer is going to be voted on by the readers, not by me, to avoid conflict of interest.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The map editor that was included with the original StarCraft has caused me many a late night back in the day.

As for your requested specifics.

Learning Curve: 4/5 (I mean this to say it's fairly difficult)
The program has some really easy level editing functions to get started as far as laying out units, but its complexity later on really makes it worth using. The more advanced features that let you make story type advancements.

Depth: 4/5
(Does it let you add story elements, custom sounds, etc.?)
Yes, the part that makes it difficult also allows for depth of the program. You can add story elements that make certain things happen at certain points of accomplishments. From memory it would allow for custom sounds, way more in depth than I ever got.

Compatibility: ?/5
(Does it work with all unpatched versions of the game, or just patched ones?)
I left this qualification as a ? because I really don't know. The original disc for the game includes the map editor that you can immediately begin to create maps with and they work with that version, I remember that the same maps did work after I patched to the latest version, but I can't say further than that.

StarCraft has a HUGE fanbase and following. and tons of maps made by other players. A quick google search will show tons of tutorials and fan made maps.

I liked Valve Hammer Editor (WorldCraft) for all those fun Half-Life games. It was relatively easy to use but was pretty limited considering it was mainly used for multi player maps.
