What's with all the multi-colored stripes appearing on web 2.0 sites lately?

Blippy, fflick, and Gowalla all have multi-colored ribbons running across the headers of their sites. Who started this trend? Do you think its an effective design element, or just the hot new thing?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Looks like a new trend. It reminds me of colorlovers.com

With these 3 sites using them, they must be hot and effective. Makes me want to buy some fruit strip gum: http://www.oldtimecandy.com/fruit-stripe-gum.htm
