What's the weather like in Austin?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Austin has mild winters and hot summers. Precipitation is limited and constant throughout the year. The Austin Chamber of Commerce reports that "Austin is located on the Colorado River where the stream crosses the Balcones escarpment separating the Texas Hill Country from the Blackland Prairies to the east." Therefore, Austin's elevation levels range from around 400 to 1,000 feet.

Summer days are very hot, but the evenings are pleasant. The winter is extremely mild, with only 25 days on average below freezing. The warmest month of the year is August and the coldest is January. Austin's highest recorded temperature is 112 degrees in 2000. It's coldest recorded temperature is -2 degrees in 1949. The most precipitation in Austin occurs in May.

Austin is generally regarded as a hidden gem in Texas. This is largely due to its geographical location and the weather that accompanies that.
