What's the strangest, weirdest thing you found in your home that you didn't know was there?

Was it something the cat dragged in? Something someone left behind? Again funniest answer wins! Have fun and enjoy!

After a few weeks of living in the house I'm currently in, my family and I noticed a few painted-over etchings of the name "Joseph" and occasionally "Joseph Driver". We thought it was odd, and would have assumed that it was some child with a crayon and a pocket knife, except that they were written really high up. One day we broke into the half-renovated upstairs hallway/rooms (which our landlord didn't let us go in) and after a minute of exploring, we saw a portion of the the hallway with dozens of the carvings! We went through the door they surrounded, and entered a room where Joseph's name was written floor to ceiling on every wall, with the exception of one "Kristen" and one mathematical equation "sin x + cos x something something". We were freaking out, especially when we realized there was one corner where the carvings stopped about three feet off the ground, and everyone said, "ahh! that's where his bed was!" haha.

As it turns out the people who lived there before us had a son who was in some way or another mentally challenged, and on top of carving his name places, he would regularly break out his bedroom window so he could lean out and watch the neighbors sitting on their porches. Mega yikes.

After living in a vintage house for several months, some necessary electrical work in the attic revealed an antique camera hidden amongst the rafters.

The camera was a No. 1 Panoram Kodak, manufactured by Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester, New York USA. The camera took panoramic photos through the use of a spring-loaded lens that moved across the horizon when triggered. Really cool technology for early 1900s photography.

When I was in my twenties I lived in a two story house that was converted to apartments. 2 on top 2 on bottom. There was a square slab of concrete approximately 15 x 15 in the back of the house never thought much of it before. Then one day Im doing the yardwork and I find a couple of doors underneath some dirt in the flower beds. Cleaned off the doors opened them and stairs led down to a concrete room the slab was the roof. I decided to go downtown get the blueprints and see what it was. It ended up being a bomb shelter the house was built in the 1918 era. We thought it was awesome. We pulled power to it and made it our poker room. We could be as loud and as we wanted and nobody would here us. One of the best times of my life

The strangest thing I found in my home was a live possum. The strange thing about this possum was that it was blind. It was living in a hot tub on our porch when we moved in and he would occasionally come out to eat the snow. Since he was blind, he would often walk into walls and fall into the hot tub. His blindness also helped in getting rid of him; he would walk right into the walls of the trap but never into it. Fortunately, he walked right on to a shovel which I used to carry him into the trap. The city picked him up and said they'd drop him off in the country. I like to think he's out there somewhere in the country blindly walking into signposts and fences.
Here is an actual picture of the blind possum who lived in our hot tub:

Our funniest, most unexpected houseguest we happened to encounter while my husband was getting ready for work. At the time, my husband was still in the Army and after he had put on his uniform he headed to his closet, took out his boots, and slipped one foot into his right boot. I watched with big eyes, as he jumped up, yelped, and quickly kicked his boot off his foot. The boot bounced off the floor and when it landed, it emptied its contents … five pink, naked baby mice … right there on my ivory carpet. When my husband searched his closet, a wide-eyed, dark-grey mama mouse peeked out from behind his sneakers and made a run for it. My husband, freaked out by now, borrowed our neighbor’s cat, Liza, for the day. Luckily, Liza never caught up with Mama Mouse. Unfortunately, she never returned to her babies, who we left behind in the boot that my husband vowed to never wear again.

I lived for a while above a costume shop in an old Victorian building. To say it was creepy would be putting it mildly. I could only access my apartment by going through the shop. I would do my laundry in the back of the shop when they were closed. On laundry days, I would often play dress up. On one occasion I found a very realistic pope costume and wore it while I washed my clothes (and my sins).

The funniest thing that I have ever found was when I was moving into a new house and came across a shoe box in the attic with dead hermit crabs in it marked Jan.1984. I moved in in 2001. Somebody saved these for that long? The box was taped shut and everything.

A unicycle was one of the most interesting and wierd things. I never knew we had one and one day I randomlly found it. I was mystified that we had a unicycle and was puzzled because it just seemed really random. I've never seen anyone use it, I guess it just lays around.
