what's the progress on developing Diablo 3?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi there, and welcome to Mahalo.
You've asked a very interesting question, and one that is quite difficult to answer. The reason it is a difficult question, is because the developer, Blizzard isn't releasing any 'work in progress' details, unlike many other developers. Blizzard even doesn't issue a release date, and simply states "When it's done."

So, any estimation on a progress is purely speculative. We know some details though, being that the game will NOT be released in 2010, and that it WILL be released "within a couple of years", as they stated in 2009. That still leaves quite a large bandwith, but a mid-2011 release is the earliest date that a release would be possible, knowing the different phases a blizzard game goes through.
Before the final launch, the game will undergo a rigorous beta testing phase, in which the online features of the game are balanced to perfection, As this phase has yet to be announced (there have been many hints to it, but no actual confirmation), any release-date is at least half a year away, knowing that Blizzard beta tests generally last 4-6 months.

So, that's all the info we currently have available. Best guess at a progression estimate would be "at least one year to go, and probably about two years until full release".

I hope this helps.
