What's the industry specific term when a VIP plugs a radio show - "I'm Blah Blah and you're listening to Cool Show on BBC2"

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I believe the term you are looking for is Celebrity Endorsement.

A Bumper or "bump" is a term used in the radio broadcasting industry to refer to short clips of music used to buffer transitions between programming elements.

"Radio sweepers are used by radio stations as segues between songs that give listeners a brief station identifier or promo, generally 20 seconds or less: "You're listening to the soft sounds of NAME radio. Easy listening throughout the Bay area."

Dry radio sweepers are voice only -- no music or sound effects.

Sweepers are also known as liners, bumpers, sweeps, station imaging, stingers, IDs, promos, shotguns, voice overs, and intros."

To be honest I looked up sweepers because It is not a term I was use to.

But given the example you gave... "I'm Blah BlahRobins and you're listening to Cool Show on BBC2" is an example of a celebrity endorsing BBC2.

I learn something everyday.

Source was the same one for "The Bard" above. I also had a radio program.

Choosing the best answer was really hard. All of your answers were terrific. Though many of you gave answers, Scion gave me 'why' as well. Honestly, three of you easily could've gotten the best answer thingy, but I had to pick one.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.

It's technically called..."station identification." I used to know the fcc requirements of how many times an hour it needs to be done by law. Things keep changing...I know at the top of the hour it's always required...anywho, that's the answer.

I've heard it most often called a "bumper" although googling around I found "sweeper" to get me the more relevant results. Whether there is a specific different term for when a celebrity does it, as compared to the host or DJ, I'm not sure. All variations I could find for "celebrity sweepers" for instance just kept coming back to the same generic companies that produce radio sweepers, with a comment about "insert local celebrity here".
