I have not been able to find a definite answer for the incubation period, the closest I've come is anywhere from weeks, to until your first outbreak. It is absolutely possible to have herpes without any symptoms. Often times it can be mistaken for a simple temporary skin condition. Getting tested is the surefire way of knowing whether or not you do have it. A blood test can be done to detect it, but the best way is if you think you are having an outbreak to get the sores tested.
