What's the idea behind frugal living?

Is it really better for my body to eat as little as possible instead of as much as possible? What is considered to be a healthy balance?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have a different take on this...
Humans were meant to fed when food was available, so they gorged. However, they were physically very active. As nearly half our nation is over weight, we are obviously doing something wrong. It isn't always how much you, but rather what you eat. Processed foods are high in sodium, fats, and preservatives. A balanced diet isn't hard to follow, once you learn to read food labels.
Most experts agree that five smaller meals are better than 3 larger meals. Skipping meals won't make you loose weight, it will program your body to save calories (stored as fat) for when you don't eat.
The other part of the equation is exercise. The traditional BMI (body mass index) isn't a good representation of your bodies percentage of fat. There are scales available that send a mild, undetectable, electrical current through you to determine fat %. Most gyms also have tools to help you. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_fat_percentage
Eat healthy, exercise, have a long life!

Maybe not as little as possible, but the human body is designed to be healthy on far less than we feed it nowadays, especially with out sedentary lifestyles. It's been shown that eating less often than three times a day is healthier and that those who eat less (not starvation, but less) live longer.
It's hard to explain a healthy balance, but try eating a quarter less food than usual and skip a meal altogether now and then. It won't hurt you and it may extend your life.

Frugal living means living on a budget. It can also be called a “tightwad living”. You have to try to save money in every step if you can. Reduce your expenses. There are a lot of options available to save money on every thing, make a budget, shop from discount shops or use coupons, live in a small house, buy a small car, use energy saving electrical equipments and so on.
