What's the difference between Medicare and Medicare HMO?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Medicare is the federal government health insurance program. Those eligible for Medicare can choose to remain with the standard, "straight" medicare program or may choose a private company/Medicare program. These programs usually charge a monthly fee and may cover more services, including prescription drugs, than the standard Medicare does. Some of these are Medicare HMO plans. An HMO plan offers many included services but restricts people to a particular hospital, set of doctors, pre-approvals, etc.
