What's the difference between isolated thunderstorms and scattered thunderstorms?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

A forecast of "scattered" thunderstorms means that 20-50% of the forecast area is expected to receive measurable rain during the forecast period, while "isolated" means a 10% chance of measurable rain. You can see the lightning and hear the thunder over a much larger area, but the definitions are based on expected rain coverage. The intensity of the rain is not a factor except that it must be "measurable" (at least 0.01 inch).
