What's the difference between a whippet and a ferret?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Since a whippet is a dog (like a tiny greyhound) they are a more traditional pet. Dogs are smart and almost any dog will learn to live with you by your rules. While puppies are very playful and dogs mellow out after a few years and while they need attention, a small dog like a whippet is content to just hang out with you during it's mature life. You can take a dog for a walk and while you can technically walk a ferret, it's not the same (people also take cats and rabbits for walks too...)

Ferrets are related to weasels and have short little legs and long furry bodies. Ferrets are generally smellier since they have glands that put out a musk. They are also smart, but generally are more difficult to house train and are often kept in a cage when you are gone. They are more of an unusual pet so that makes them attractive to people. They are also very entertaining in how active they remain thoughout their life. One issue with this is that they are generally nocturnal and they often want to play in the middle of the night (in their cage hopefully so they don't get into trouble).

I've had 12 dogs over the last 20 years. I've had friends who owned ferrets.

A Whippet is a dog. A ferret is a cute little fuzzy creature and definitely not a dog.
