What's the closest best alternative vacation destination near the Gulf that has not been affected by the recent Oil Spill?

Tip for best answer: M$1.50
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would highly recommend going somewhere like Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA. Both are great vacation destinations (especially for a long weekend) and are on the Atlantic, so they aren't going to be affected by the spill. Alternatively, you could hit the mountains of Tennessee which are beautiful and might give you at least a little relief from the heat at this point in the summer.

The other side of Mexico in the Pacific. One of the Islands or I don't think CanCun has been hit yet.

I was just in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico and it was amazing. It is on the Yucatan Peninsula about 45 minutes east of Cancun. The beaches were beautiful. The food was fantastic. The Mayan ruins at Tulum are on the cliffs overlooking the ocean are stunning.
We also took a day trip to Chichen Itza. It was $60 a person and worth every penny.
