What's the cheapest way to get Alcatraz tickets? Are there tours other than the audio tour we should take?
Is it really "http://www.alcatrazcruises.com/ ? Should we get the audio tour refund?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Typically the tour guides are volunteers and at the end of their "canned" speech sometimes they will select a few -- less then 8 -- for a private "behind the scenes" of the Rock. My wife and I were approached after the typical tour and were selected I guess, because we looked really interested. We went to "Bird" mans cell, Infirmary, Laundry, etc. We spent the next 3 hours going to areas where others never go -- including the places where they filmed "the Rock".

jsturr, did you book through AlcatrazCruises.com?
As I recall there is only one operator of which you can get to the Island -- so you are forced to use the operator they provide - so yes. Also book online as it's hit or miss getting tickets the day of as most of the foot traffic will eat up the tickets in a hurry -- sometimes they are sold out from Friday to Monday.
