What's the best website to promote an unsigned jam band?

My brother is in a terrific jam band full of guys just graduating from college. They've played together for years and have over 100 shows under their belt at bars, festivals, & private parties. How do they take the leap to the next level?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'd make sure that all of their upcoming shows are listed on Jambase (http://www.jambase.com). Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are definitely important places to establish a presence. A good website for the band is definitely important. A dedicated site that lists upcoming shows, has photos, mp3's for download, etc. Some bands put it all on a MySpace page, but I think that if the band has their own website that they can truly offer a unique experience rather than a generic MySpace experience.

If they're looking to get their music heard they could consider giving an album way through a site like www.thepiratebay.org, they sometimes feature bands on the front page if they release music as a torrent.

While using Twitter, Facebook or Myspace, you can also register and post songs on PureVolume (www.purevolume.com).

There are many ways:
Social networks presence (Facebook, iLike, MySpace, Twitter) is the first step.
If you want to sell your album in iTunes, Amazon... the best way is using an agregator (The Orchard is probably the best one).
If they do not wantto sell their album and want to give more concerts, allowing free and legal downloads on their website can be a great solution in terms of communication.
