I don't know if there is a "best" way to start reading comics. It's all a matter of what kind of things you like to read. Each comic has its own theme. I also am not sure if you mean comic strips in a newspaper or comic books.
If you are talking about comic strips, I can mention several that I enjoy. Blondie is a favorite and has been around for nearly 80 years. In fact, there used to be movies back in the 1930's about it. The main characters are Dagwood Bumstead and his wife Blondie. They have a son and a daughter and the strip focuses on every day life with the Bumsteads including Dagwood's job and his boss J.C. Dithers.
Beetle Bailey is another good one that has been around since the 1950's. Beetle Bailey is a private in the army who will do whatever he can to get out of any and all work. There is the constant battle between him and his seargent. Other privates, General Halftrack, his pretty blonde secretary and other characters make the strip one of the best.
Archie is a classic too. There have been many Archie comic books as well. Archie is a student at Riverdale High School. The strip focuses on him and his girlfriend Veronica and Betty as well as Jughead, Moose and all the teachers at the school.
One of my all time favorites is Drabble. This strip, by Kevin Fagan has been around since the late 1970's. It is about the Drabble family, featuring the father Ralph, his wife, who is just known as "honeybunch" to him or "mom" to the kids, Patrick, the youngest son and the most intelligent of the family, Penny, the youngest child and Norman, the college aged goofball. They have three pets, Bob the duck, Wally the dog and Oogie the cat. There are many Drabble books written featuring the strips from the daily papers.
