What's the best way to protect your privacy on FB?

Thanks for your answer. Well, I think points #1 and #2 are hardly realistic - if you comply with them why use FB at all?
Your point #3 is a bit vague, no? I thought there should be some happy middle ground that could be reached.

NOTHING is protected these days. There is no "best" except for one: Lock yourself away in a padded room and you'll never be harmed... just bored to death.
