What's the best way to package a textbook for mailing?

I recently sold a few textbooks on amazon.com and want to ship them USPS media mail. I had a few of these great plastic envelopes which worked well with packing tape and staples. These ran out and I need an alternative. I can always use a flat rate USPS priority box but these buyers didn't pay for expedited shipping, so I'd prefer to stick to a home-made alternative.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have had books mailed to me in manila envelopes made with bubble wrap and the books have arrived fine. I have also had books mailed to me in a cardboard box and they have arrived fine. If I were you and you were looking for something on the cheaper, homemade side, I would look around for a cardboard box and ship the books that way.

Next time you go to the supermarket get a paper bag instead of plastic. These are great for wrapping, they're very thick. Just use mailing tape to secure it. I do this all the time when I mail books for Amazon. It also really doesn't add too much weight.

When I use to work in a bookstore a lot of our 'out of print' and 'rare' books were shipped in simple bubble mailers and they always arrived in great shape. I would check out this option since you can find bubble mailers just about anywhere!

Those bubblers at the P.O. or even less expensive (my favorite) at FedEx are great. If it's just a book or two, I've always had good luck with just plain ol' heavy grade brown paper (like a grocery bag) wrapped SEVERAL layers thick and taped VERY WELL. Reinforce with cardboard on the front and back, if desired.
