There are many ways to hold a football but they all involve the positioning of the fingers on the laces of the ball. Some people put their last three fingers on the laces ball, the index finger near the tip and the thumb around the end of the ball on the underside. I know Terry Bradshaw used to have just the middle finger on the laces and the index finger on the end of the ball with the thumb on the underside. The key is to be able to throw the ball with a tight spiral so the wind does not affect the velocity or the accuracy of the throw. One method I don't suggest is putting all the figers except the thumb across the laces of the ball. It's nearly impossible to throw a good sprial pass that way. You need most of the ball below the hand to get the best spiral. If you want more information on holding and throwing a ball, you can find it in any football instructional book.
Good luck!
