What's the best way to ground a plastic chair floor mat to remove static electricity?

I want to avoid zapping my computer and other peripherals attached to it.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If you want a quick easy solution just grab a spray bottle and mix about half a capfull of fabric softener in with water. Lift the mat and spray the solution under and around the mat. The fabric softener helps to get rid of static cling in clothes, and oddly enough works just as well on the mats and the floor. About every 6 months or so or when the weather starts to dry out (Winter time) just reapply the spray...

I also heard dryer sheets work. I'll try this too.

Get a piece of wire and a ball of steel wool; 1. flatten and spread out the steel wool into a pancake shape. 2. Attach the wire to the center of the steel wool. 3. Place the steel wool under the plastic mat. 4. Attach the other end of the wire to your desk or any other large metal object nearby.
