What's the best way to get subscribers to subscribe to a newsletter?

I've got a blog with news and information regarding alternative energy and I'd like to promote the newsletter more. Do you know of the best methods to promote the newsletter to get more subscribers?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You need to let potential subscriber's know a bit more about what they will get from the newsletter that they don't already get from your blog. Providing a link to your newsletter archive would be useful.

Also, have an RSS feed option for the newsletter. I'm very selective about any subscription that comes to an e-mail address. I try too keep my e-mail for items that are personally directed at me as opposed to general audience subscriptions.

Even though your newsletter is free, you will find some good hints for promoting your newsletter in the book: Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy That Grabs Their Attention and Compels Them to Buy

I would subscribe if I could control when and how much detail I received.

You may have daily updates that go into great detail but I prefer an RSS feed with subjects only.

You may have many topics that are all related but I'm only interested in Solar at this time. It would be nice to subscribe to that topic in full form but RSS headers for other topics at the bottom.

Link coupons and special offers for alternative energy incentive programs and from local (to the subscribers location) businesses. That would also be a way to make money for you to support your work.
