According to an article posted on MSNBC, to make cold brewed coffee you need a pitcher, a filter, a pound of ground coffee beans and 9 cups of cold water. Put the beans in the filter on top of pitcher. Pour the water over the ground beans. The water will take about 10 hours to seep through the beans. The liquid that appears on the bottom of the pitcher is cold brewed coffee.

Furthermore, the article suggested that people find cold brewed coffee less acidic and more delicious than coffee made with the traditional method.

If you only make one or two cups of coffee: double the amount of the coffee you use to brew for 2 cups made in a drip pot. Add the same amount of water that you would use for drip brewing 2 cups of coffee and cover the container. Do this in the early evening and it will be ready to decant in time for the next morning's cup of joe. To decant the concentrate: Pour water and grounds into a strainer lined with 2 coffee filters. To make the coffee: pour @ 2 - 3 oz. of concentrated coffee into your cup and add hot water to taste.

Here is a method you can try, which requires no expensive systems. It utilizes only a jar and a bit of patience.

Here is a video tutorial:

So you're trying to make iced coffee! Here the the items you need to start:

* A container for the final brew, which will be placed in the refrigerator when finished. This can be a pitcher or bottle or small carafe or even a tall jar with a lid.
* A tall glass for the brewing (or a mason jar with lid, etc.)
* A second glass for pouring the steeped coffee mixture into.
* A stainless steel kitchen strainer, nothing big or fancy. The finer the mesh, the better. If the mesh is coarse, you can try using some good cheesecloth to help strain

The attached link will give you the steps on how to brew the cold coffee.

While there are expensive systems marketed to help you cold brew, you can make a simple system that produces good cold brewed coffee from simple items you probably have at home-- 2-32 oz plastic beverage cups, a 1/16 drill bit, a pencil, scissors, cardboard and a water bottle.

Or you could invest in the coffee toddy. Which is a better version of the steps said above.

Here's The Url for one on amazon.

I love my Toddy! If you buy a Toddy system from French Market Coffee you'll get a free mug and bag of coffee and be supporting a local New Orleans business to boot. http://frenchmarketcoffee.intelliporthosting.com/Portals/FrenchMarketCoffee/Cart/p-79-get-started-cold-water-brewing-special.aspx

You should purchase a toddy iced coffee brew system. They are relatively inexpensive and produce excellent iced coffee.

Check it out:

http://www.coffee-makers-et-cetera.com/toddy-coffee-maker.html

You get the oils from the beans (which you lose if you use paper filters...which is why French press machines make the best hot coffee)

Also...the absolute best iced coffee you will ever have in your life is at Conservatory Coffee in Culver City, CA (LA area). I moved away from there about 6 months ago and miss it every day!

Yield: Two drinks

1/3 cup ground coffee (medium-coarse grind is best)
Milk (optional)

1. In a jar, stir together coffee and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and let rest at room temperature overnight or 12 hours.

2. Strain twice through a coffee filter, a fine-mesh sieve or a sieve lined with cheesecloth. In a tall glass filled with ice, mix equal parts coffee concentrate and water, or to taste. If desired, add milk.

I used this method and was very pleased with the results so I am not going to elaborate on the process. I do the exact same thing but with 1 gallon plastic buckets if I want to make bigger batches.
