What's the best way to clean shrimp?

Are there any fast and easy ways to remove the vein and tail from a shrimp? How can you make shrimp so that it's ready to eat as soon as it's finished cooking?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You can peel shrimp before it is cooked, making that the easiest way to have it ready to eat as soon as it is finished cooking. If you just have shrimp tails, the best way to peel the is to "crack" the tail by bending the shrimp against its normal curve. This will pop the shell from the edge of the meat of the shrimp. You then work from the top to peel the shell off the meat.

In order to remove the vein from the shrimp you can either run your finger along the vein or one of the tines of a fork. If you do this while running cold water over the shrimp you will be able to easily remove all of the vein. From here you can boil the shrimp and they will be ready to eat as soon as they turn pink. If you want to eat them cold, you can immediately put them in the freezer in order to reach a cooler temperature faster.

It is easy and simple. Take a shrimp by its leg and pull the leg off trying to get the shell off too. If it don’t work, then pull the shell separately afterwards. If you want to leave the tail on, it’s ok, you could hold the shrimp by the tail while eating! Next step, you are going to devein the shrimp the following way: with a sharp knife make a cut along the back of the shrimp, all the way to the tail. Then pull out the flesh and take out the main vein. That’s it, your shrimp are ready to be rinsed and cooked. Shrimps can be boiled, grilled or baked. If you don’t want to cook them right away, make sure you keep them in a fridge.
