What's the best way to clean grout really well?

Our bathroom floor has really neat-looking ceramic tile - white with white grout (yikes!) and over the years, despite regular cleaning with a steam mop, the grout has started to yellow with age and probably dirt. Our new bathtub is stark white and it really does make the floor look dingy. Is there a way to clean the grout that doesn't involve days of knee pad-sitting and scrubbing? Can you use bleach on grout safely?

Obviously you did not take the time every couple of years to seal the grout. Your problem now is how deep has the dirt sunk into the grout. They make traditional grout cleaners but if your past that try muriatic acid. It is sold in Home Depo and only requires gloves and ventalation. If the dirt is all through the grout then you have to remove it and regrout. Than remember to put on the sealer. Don't let people talk you into a skim coat of grout it is a waste of time.

Just remember to use the sealer about every two years depending on the traffic in the bathroom and if people are wearing outdoor shoes in this room. Good luck!

You make an excellent point about not sealing the grout - I think we did when we moved in, but it has been far too long and now we're paying the price for it. After you wrote this, I wound up getting some actual grout cleaner and so far that, combined with a Magic Eraser, is doing the trick! I also got some really, really good grout sealer to put on once we finally finish the project. Thank you for the tips!

Grout cleaner is great, but if it's mold in there grout cleaner does no good at all and can disguise the problem until it takes over. This is especially true with black mold.http://www.fiveboromoldspecialist.com

Listen to all of these people. They are correct. Get the grout cleaner. Follow the directions. Seal it. Ask the store you are buying from for help. They will walk you right trough it.
