M$1. ACS has an overview here:

2. WIRED magazine has a really good story on the importance of catching cancer early.

3. The ACS has a story on MRIs for early detection, which I've never heard of: " Studies Have Shown MRI To Be a Sensitive Screening Tool. Now doctors from The Netherlands, reporting in a recent issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and doctors from Toronto reporting in a recent issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology have found that MRI may be a more sensitive tool for detecting early breast cancer than standard tools. In each report MRI detected more breast cancers than did mammography in young women with strong family history or a BRCA mutation."

4. ACS has a mammogram reminder service:

I would print out all the solid information from credible sources you can find and bring it to your doctor to discuss.
