What's the best USB microphone for recording vocals that's under $70

I'm starting up a podcast with a friend of mine, and we're looking for relatively inexpensive mics to get, without sacrificing audio quality. It needs to be a stand alone mic, not a headset.

Would be great if it came with a desk stand and/or pop filter, but it's not a must.
Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Your price range is a bit low, but here is what I would suggest:

The M-Audio Producer USB mic is the highest quality microphone you can get in this price range, but you'll have to get a used one to meet your requirements. Here is one on eBay that also comes with a desk stand.

I'd actually go with the Blue Snowflake. It is from high end microphone manufacturer Blue Microphones and provides crisp sound for both vocals and instrumentals. It is also extremely compact.

Yes I had one, but it broke so I returned it. I may get it again when I am in need of a microphone again. It is awesome because it is so small yet provides better sound IMO than the Snowball. I'd definitely recommend it, especially since Amazon has such a great deal on it.

Hey Skyvan, that looks like a great desktop mic.

Have you personally used this?
The only reason that I ask is that it would fit perfectly for what I need a new mic for and am looking for a personal recommendation.

My daughter and I do a very occasional, very amateur podcast. We use a Blue Snowball, which is more like $100, but I think meets your other criteria pretty well. Pretty good sound quality, to my unprofessional ear.

Here's one link for a place to buy it:

I've bought one or two things from Musician's Friend, and they seem pretty reliable.

Considering your budget, I'd recommend a Samson C01U USB - although it has been discontinued it is still available through Amazon at right about your budget.

You can read a little bit about the mic by a pro who has one and listen to some audio commentary recorded with one via this link:

Another option if you have an existing XLR mic, is the Blue Icicle, which is an XLR to USB converter. It will let you use condenser or dynamic mics and will supply phantom power when needed. It lists at $79 but is $48 at www.buy.com.
