You do not want to come to Phoenix Arizona during the summer! Unless you want to be in 115 degrees heat that doesn't go down too much at night time.

September - April is the best time to come to Phoenix. The weather is mild and pleasant. Some prefer to visit in Autumn, and see how a desert autumn compares to a Midwest/east autumn. Spring time is great to see the desert in bloom.

If you are brave enough to come and visit in the summer time, expect the temperatures to easily be over 100 degrees. With no humidity. And yes, we say all the time - its a dry heat. But imagine your oven on 350 degrees, and when its primed and ready you open it and stand too close! That is literally what it feels like. With no humidity, its very tiring, and you will notice that the residents will prevent going out during the daytime, and trying to do their errands after sunset.

I disagree with the last answer. Temperatures are still in the triple digits in September and don’t begin to cool down until October or November. Also, many people cannot handle the allergens that a desert in spring time will throw at your nasal passages (dust, pollen, etc). The best time to take a trip to Phoenix is the week between Christmas (December 25) and New Year’s Day (January 1st). Temperatures are currently in the mid 80s (answered December 22nd, 2010), but are usually cooler.

There are many activities such as Zoo Lights (usually starting after Thanksgiving lasting through January) at the Phoenix Zoo. This is where the entire zoo is dressed up with Christmas lights and displays, and it is a really good time for the whole family, couples, or just to get out for a walk. Also, if you want to visit the Zoo during the day, even September is an ungodly time to do so (I went this autumn, and it was 100 degrees before 10 AM), however December is what most people consider spring weather, and in the morning it might even resemble winter or autumn for some folks.

There is also the Fiesta Bowl (a major college football event) Block Party on Mill Avenue in Tempe on New Year’s Eve which includes rides, games, concerts, and lots of bars. This is also very family, singles, or couples friendly! The Fiesta Bowl Parade is the next morning (family friendly and a great time), and the Fiesta Bowl itself is later that day.

If you are not into traveling during the holidays, try going just after New Years, but don’t wait too long. Temperatures begin to rise again in February.

I am also a resident of Arizona, but a Phoenix metropolitan area resident, to be more specific.
