What's the best RPG you ever played?

I’m a big fan of Role Playing Video Games (aka RPG’s). I have played several during my life and I was wondering … what’s your favorite RPG? Years ago I played Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale II and I finished the entire Baldur’s Gate series. I also finished Diablo series several times. I think 10 times Diablo 1 and 7 times Diablo 2. I love The Withcer and I can’t wait for Diablo 3. I think it will be the game of the year! Let me know what’s your favorite RPG and why? What makes it so different? How many times have you finished that game and why have you replayed it?

Tip for best answer: M$0.75
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would probably go with Final Fantasy VII as my best I've ever played. I loved it, from the story to the characters, to the music, and all the systems (magic, creating chocobos, battle)

I think one of the best RPGs I've ever played was Vagrant Story. It was the first RPG I'd ever played that was different from the turn-based games. You also played solo. No party, just you against it all. If I had the time, I'd play it all over again.

Another one that is in contention is Persona 3. Persona 3, while being a turn-based game, made me feel better about it not being MMORPG-esque like Final Fantasy XII. The big selling point here are the Social Links, where you basically level up your friendship with certain people, and that in turn helps you to level up your personas faster. I also love the weapon types, and the strategy of using the correct monsters according to your enemies' weaknesses.

Out of all the RPGs I have played, Disgaea 3 is the most CRAZY! More developers need to learn from this game when it comes to just taking the rules and going in any direction you see fit. From building a tower of all your characters and using them as a gigantic whip, to using penguins as bombs, to hitting enemies for, like 99999999 points of damage, it's a blast to play.

I don't play MMORPGs a lot. Of the 2 handfuls or so I've played, I liked Sword of the New World. It's aesthetically pleasing, which doesn't hurt. Also, you play as one character, but you get a whole party, with NPCs commanding the characters not in use. MMO veterans would probably laugh at me, but this game just fits what I want in a game.
