What's the BEST pet you've ever had?

I had a cat who helped me look after my first child. The cat would calm her down, the cat would let her play and pull and hug all day long, and the cat would get to my crying baby before I could :)

My best "pet" was a horse that was so ugly when I got her, for fun my Mom called her Pretty Pony and it stuck. I got her for free, a yearling quarter horse covered in warts and rain rot, all gangly and as kluntzy as you ever saw a horse. She was perfect for me as a teenager who didn't know a thing about horses. She let me hang on her all day, I could lead her anywhere and when it came to breaking one day I just got on her and we went for a ride. She was the best thing for a kid that just didn't know which way to go. When I got married she came with me, when I moved to Texas, she came too. She grew into a gorgeous Palomino whose foals brought a nice bit of money. I finally gave her to a family with kids when I graduated from western pleasure to dressage and Morgans because I wasn't using her any more and she needed to be some place where she would be loved and appreciated.

I have to say my "best pet" was a very wily and funny cat who behaved very badly. She, unlike yours, didn't like crying children and when my sister would come over and her kids started crying. She would run over and bat them a few times and then put her claws into her diaper and rip them off. She would also wait for people to go down the stairs and then smack them a few times in the head. Everybody always complained about her misbehavior. But to me she was always a good cat. Unfortunately one day she ran away.
