What's the best marriage proposal, whether yours or not, that you've heard of?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I recently answered a Mahalo question that was similar to yours. I think that the best proposal is one directly from the heart. One filled with honesty and truth. If I could propose, this is what I would do.

My viewpoint is that when you are planning to ask someone to spend the rest of their life with you, you need to make it as memorable as possible. Now, being the joker that I am, I would do this.

Arrange the most disfunctional day imaginable. I'll explain why at the end.

1. First, make her breakfast. You could make evercooked eggs and burnt toast. Then settle for cold cereal.
2. Take her to the movies, forget your wallet, and show up 10 minutes late for the show.
3. Go for a country drive, run out of gas (Within reasonable walking distance to a service station, or have AAA)
4. Take her to a nice restaurant, and arrange ahead of time for them to help you. Ask them to serve the wrong order, make you wait for a table, have a rude waiter or other dining nightmare

Be creative, but literally try to have everything go wrong. Try to laugh it off, even if she starts getting angry. And here's the kicker.
Once she doesn't think it could get any worse, you get down on one knee and this is what you say.

"I know today has been horrible, and I made it that way to show you no matter how hard life gets, or how many bad days we may have, I'll love you, and we can get though anything, as long as we're together."

It's not always about romance. Marriage is more about going through life with a partner, someone who's got your back so to speak. The best relationships are those that make it through the hard times, not those that never have hard times. Plus, it'll be a day she'll never forget!

Good luck to you.....however you decide to ask her, make sure it's from your heart.

It was so simple, yet elegant, romantic and so sophisticated! My girlfriend had a feeling that she was going to be asked by her boyfriend, to marry him, so she was always on the outlook, and I think he was beginning to know that. So, he played it cool for a while. My friend started to forget and lightened up a bit. One night, they were having champagne to celebrate something totally different and it was then, just between the two of them, when he decided to pop the question. He put the shiny diamond ring inside the bottom of the glass of her champagne and hoped she wouldn't swallow the ring! ☺. Well, of course before she could get too far, he started making a lot out of the glass and she was staring at it, and it really did take her a long time to figure it out, for a girl who thought she had it all figured out to start with! ☺. But, eventually she saw the ring at the bottom of the floating champagne. He got it and got on one knee and did it up the right way. She just couldn't say no!

This is what I did. My fiancee and I had watched 500 Days of Summer this year and loved it!. The movie was great but the dance sequence was, by far, our favorite part. I decided to use this to my advantage for my proposal to her. The day the movie had come out on DVD I told her we should go Christmas shopping at the outlet mall. When we got there, my friends and family were already set up with a stereo and ready to dance. We did the 500 Days of Summer dance sequence and afterwards I proposed. She, as well as many people in the audience, were in tears. It was a proposal we will never forget. The video can be seen on YouTube. Just search "500 days of summer proposal." Or follow the link! Thank you for reading! =)
