I'm a gamer, and i was wondering what the best laptop for gaming would be that's under 700$.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I entirely agree. Cheap laptops are not usually for gaming. I have a gaming laptop, but it was a surplus model, AND it was still $1300 (last year), and now it doesn't have the MHz to run newer games, though it's got the RAM and .5G video RAM.

Here is what I use when I want a machine: outlet.dell.com
Here is the laptop page: http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/notebooks/ct.aspx?refid=notebooks&s=dfh&cs=22

Honestly the dell outlet is for returned by end of lease, or refurbished machines. This is likely one of your best bets, but if you're hoping for a dual-core or quad-core machine, then I suggest lowering your expectations to a ~3GHz single-core maybe a 14" display and at least 2G of RAM for a starter gaming machine for about the 2005-2010 games, but you won't be running Crysis which is basically the biggest test that gamers actually run.

Anyway... think used, not new. That will keep you in the $700 range, but really... if you're like 16, and have a job flippin' burgers, then that means that you have an income that can ALL be funneled into a computer, and do that for like 5 months... save yourself up like $1500, and get yourself a more reasonable gaming computer that will at least last 2 years. I got mine for a 2-year gaming box, then I plan on using it as a spare gaming box.

If you just want something to pay 90's and early y2k games, then think even cheaper. Acer makes a desktop that is gaming worthy without upgrades for like $400. No joke.

Here is an ACER laptop for right at $700 that _may_ fit your needs, but really... Acer is inexpensive. Dell comes with a 1-year support contract on their refurbs, and Walmart sells Acer as a local sale.

I've not done much business with HP or Gateway computers, and Alienware was bought out by Dell.

Good Luck.

PS
Get yourself a MX518 gaming mouse from logitech. It has an adjustable dps right on the mouse for making the movement faster when you say... switch to a sniper rifle from a SMG.

Really, a laptop for gaming is kind of like a VW beetle for a soccer team but they are getting a lot better. I'd go with this one which leaves some money left over for a nice mouse and headset.

I think "HP Pavilion dv7-4060us 17.3-Inch Laptop" is the best for the price.
It powered by ATI RadeonĀ® HD 5650 Graphics performance is sufficient for high details in nearly all DirectX 10 games (only Crysis and GTA4 are not fluently playable in high details. Upcoming and current DirectX 11 games (like DIRT2) may not run in full detail settings. That means some of the new DirectX 11 features (Tesselation e.g.) may not run fluently on this gaming graphics adapter.
Currently the HD 5650 is a good gaming pick for well priced laptops with a 15 inch screen and a resolution of about 1366x768.
