But if you really want to give something then a rose or something small, and maybe something funny would be great. Also if you really wanna give some special then give something he always can look at like a picture or something that he can have in his room or something so everytime he is looking at that item, he will give you a thought.

But in this case..."anniversary"...I don't think the gift is too important. The date, on the other hand is memorable.
So, if it was me, I would enjoy a nice dinner...nothing fancy...I love home-cooking, a good bottle of wine and a good movie.
But, if you insist on making a material gift, you should think about something that can last...hard to loose ( guys have this bad habit )^^. A leather wallet, or a watch....
If the boy is a funny type, think about a funny t-shirt ( with a custom inscription ) ^^
But nothing expensive.

Can anything better than giving a red rose with a smile (if a kiss then it awesome XD)? I dunno. I always like to get that! I don't think anything can be better than it, imagine she gifted me a acer aspire one may it more helpful to me BUT obviously will not make more happier than taking heart burning rose. (lol)
Just think, a car,bike,netbook can touch your eyes if you are gifted these but you are gifted a rose, definitely it will touch you mind,(I dunno about girls feelings :D) my mind all guy's mind.
