What's the best blog about politically related topics?

They can be about politics itself, political news, economics, foreign policy, etc.

There's a catch, though. I want quality material. I do not need someone to link me to Daily Kos, Hugh Hewitt, or anyone that babbles ideological fecal matter. I'm interested in people that think things out, not that are popular because they babble incoherently to followers of either party.

As a few examples of what I'm reading, here are some of my favorites:

Marginal Revolution
All of the people on The Atlantic's blogroll
Matt Yglesias
the Freakanomics blog

There are a bunch more I dabble with a bit, so be creative, a smaller blog that's not linked to everywhere could well be awesome, and certainly a better thing to link to than one of the most popular ones. 4 or 5 links is good in an answer. I don't want to read through a laundry list of 50.

My primary news sources are The Economist, the BBC, and NPR, and I'm moderate fiscally and liberal socially , but I've gotten where I am by exposing myself to a very wide variety of information, a bunch of my favorites are closer to being libertarian than most anything else - as seen by Yglesias and Sullivan, I like to read liberals and conservatives, but not idiots like Kos, Limbaugh, etc.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

I would recommend the Volokh Conspiracy.

Reason Magazine has a blog as a well.

The New Republic has a number of blogs most notably the Plank.

Hope that you find these recommendations useful.

It's not a blog, and politics is perhaps less than 40% of the content. Nobody I read online makes me think harder than Jerry Pournelle.

Oh, and for politics, especially election news, I really like http://www.electoral-vote.com/

During the election cycle, "The Votemaster" takes a blending of the polls and predicts who will win the US Presidential election based on the electoral college numbers. Sorry, you'll have to wait another 3 years for this site to get interesting again.

If you like electoral-vote.com, check out fivethirtyeight. As opposed to just averaging results from polls, they do statistical analysis of the polls, their leanings, and the meta-poll blew away everything else when it came to the results in this presidential election. Nate Silver runs it, who is of Baseball Prospectus fame, he's one of the current gurus behind what was uncovered to the public at large by Moneyball (A book I consider a must read).

Mr. Pournelle seems an interesting guy, and was my second favorite link of the bunch. He's the kind of guy I love to read - I agree on some things, disagree on others, though he's a bit quick to pigeonhole, he doesn't seem to go on and on. I'll probably be a somewhat regular visitor to his site. Thanks!

i'm not qualified to answer this question. i like reading though about politics from places that seem to think or move things, or just read about politics in off the beat places like wie.org which has a political observation in relation to consciousness right now (and in general, moveon.org). so, i don't really dial into just a plain boring blog, more like things that are more magazine like or headlines first because the best reads are usually eclectic from different authors, so i check out politics.alltop.com
