What's the best Beatles song?

What's your favorite Beatles song? What do you like about it?

Revolution is by far my favorite Beatles song. I like the beat, and the lyrics stick with you. We all want to change the world, don't we?

Second to that, I like John Lennon's song Instant Karma, even though it wasn't actually a Beatles song per se.

My favorite is "Eleanor Rigby" from the "Revolver" album. I usually don't like sad songs, but with the strings and the lyrics, it makes me remember that there are a lot of people out there who really are lonely, and if they were to die, no one would even notice. It's sad.

Although I really like "Norwegian Wood", "Day in the Life", and "Blackbird", Eleanor Rigby is a masterpiece, I think.

Miss Kelraye's answer is great and I agree with her on that song, but I have a personal connection with all the songs on Sgt. Pepper's album. My Mom would put me on one of those rocking horses with springs on them when I was three or four...

and put the album on so she could clean the house or get dinner ready. I must have rocked miles to that album. Out of that album, my favorite song is Penny Lane.

I like that song because it conjures up images of places that seemed far away when I was a kid. I'm sure if tomorrow I visited this area of Liverpool... it would seem magical, just from that song. I also like the feeling that it's a personal journal page from both Paul and John, who grew up there.

I have listened to the Beatles all of my life. One of my earliest memories is getting a little white transistor radio for a present and listening to the Beatles when I was four or five years old.

I have been in hundreds of discussions about the Beatles over the years, and nobody has EVER agreed with me about my favorite Beatles song, but you have to know that my mom listened to country music, I learned to love Buck Owens, and then one day Dwight Yoakam, both of whom have recorded this song. Guess what folks, the Beatles played country music!

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you Ringo Starr singing ACT NATURALLY

My personal favorite by the Beatles is 'Here Comes the Sun'. I have this song in three different versions, the regular, the instrumental and by a tribute band. I have found this song to be a true mood elevator when I am feeling down. Many times I simply listen to the instrumental version. The beat is just enough to make me smile and feel somewhat better. The lyrics are great too. The day might be bad, but in the morning, the sun will come again and make everything alright :) ... My next favorite is 'Please Please Me' because my parents had the record and I used to sneak it into my room and listen to it while dancing like no one was watching!

My favorite Beatles song is "I Want You (She's So Heavy)."

In this song, John Lennon expressed his feelings for Yoko Ono. His voice, in addition to the hard rock/heavy metal music, conveys the intensity of his obsession with her. Doesn't everyone want someone to say to them "I want you so bad"? Or even "you're 'so heavy'" (as in deep, complex, compelling)? This song is so sensual. No matter how many times I hear it, it evokes emotion and memories. Some find it repetitive, or too long, but to me the repetition and length just emphasize the intensity of the singer's feelings.

The recording of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" for the Abbey Road album was the last time all four Beatles were in the recording studio together.

I found this question to be very hard to answer since all of their songs create so much emotion from what it took for them to create... to what we feel when we listen to them.
The connection is complex.

"I am the Walrus". Actually its the only Beatles song I like, maybe because the first time I heard the song it was was a cover and not the original. Also I was fourteen and it was in a skateboarding video, a lot of testosterone going on.

The Beatles have never done much for me, oh well.

i think that's my favorite part. It's almost eerie but happy at the same time, there is some emotional confusion going on in this song.

My favorite song by The Beatles is without a doubt 1966's "Yellow Submarine.'' My reasons are simple: when I was very little (around 4 or so), this was the only Beatles song I could sing along with! My mom and I would sit out on the front porch of our house doing mother/daughter stuff (I'd help her pot plants or whatever she needed) and I'd sing and sing. I think this particular Beatles song is quite "kid-friendly" - repetitive, easy lyrics, etc. The first short story I ever had published, in fact, was a recount of my memories of this song and how it instantly takes me back to childhood and happy memories of my mom. I remember once I actually got poster board and paint and made my own little Yellow Submarine. I put on a play for my parentals using my stuffed animals and dolls, explaining that "we all live in a Yellow Submarine." Yes I was an odd child.

For sentimental reasons, that's my choice. I don't think I saw the "Yellow Submarine" movie until I was much older - here's a clip :-)

I must admit I am a big Beatles fan. I have many favourite songs; I like some of them for their lyrics, I like some for their rythm and I like others for their message. It's difficult to choose the one I like the most but I think I'll pick Lonesome Tears in My Eyes. I like it because it's a very classic rock'n roll song.

Like the question that I've recently asked about selecting the best song that Bruce Springsteen has ever performed, this is one of those questions that it's impossible to find one single answer to. There are so many to choose from, and many of them have been stated in the answers here on this page.

For me, it comes down to three: The Long and Winding Road, because it is considered to be the last great song they created just before the band broke up in 1970; Something, written by George Harrison, which was Frank Sinatra's favorite Beatles song ever (although for years when he performed it he would misidentify the writers of the song as the McCartney/Lennon tandem) because, "...it's the only love song I've ever heard where the word love is never used in the song..."; and "In My Life" because of its simple message looking at one's life, which all of us have done from time to time.
