What's one of the strangest things that's happened to you during international travel?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This happened at Christmas break, 1976.
So my girlfriend and I are traveling by bus in Mexico. We are in Zacatecas trying to get to Guadalajara. It is a madhouse at the ticket counter, people are shouting at the agent, my girl who is the one of us that speaks Spanish, is kind of intimidated by all this. I firmly insist that she push forward and get tickets. She finally does so. I watch the agent turn and talk to another agent. Then he turns back to my girlfriend and make the tickets.
As the bus pulls out of the station, I ask my girlfriend what the one agent had said to the other.
She answers, "He said, 'Put them on that bus. They'll never know the difference.'"
The most that I can say is that it was an interesting, exhausting ride through those country villages with the pigs and the chickens until we reached Guadalajara.

We decided to pop over to Spain for a long weekend a few months back. We spent the weekend in San Sebastien, a quaint little town on the ocean, quiet, peaceful. We went home, all is good.

3 days later, Basque Separatists (Etta) blew up a bomb at that hotel!

A person fell down on her way to the bathroom and passed out. A doctor had to revive her. All of this happened next to my seat. I was only 5 years old.
